The New York City Ballet is one of the leading ballet companies in the world. Its founding director, the legendary George Balanchine, created choreography first performed by and still closely associated with the company.
Founded in 1948, the New York City Ballet seeks to perpetuate ballet as a vital art form that appeals to young people and adults. Performing at the David H. Koch Theater, designed by Philip Johnson, the company maintains a repertory of more than 150 works by Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Peter Martins (its current director) and others.
