The Film Society of Lincoln Center sponsors the renowned annual New York Film Festival, one of the world's leading showcases for new American and international films. The Film Society also operates the Walter Reade Theater, opened in 1991 as a year-round presenter of films that would not otherwise have a major venue in New York City.

The Film Society's programs range from daring new works from around the world to retrospectives of outstanding directors, performers, cinematographers, screenwriters and other film artists.
