Brooklyn's colorful history, diverse cultures and unique neighborhoods come alive at the Brooklyn Historical Society (BHS), where a varied and extensive range of programs celebrates and interprets Brooklyn's rich heritage for young people and adults. Located in an 1881 terra-cotta and brick landmark building in Brooklyn Heights, BHS houses interactive, family-oriented exhibits and a reference library.

$35 for annual membership for teachers and students. Please present ID at the front desk.

  • Archive: Library hours are Wed-Fri, 1-5 pm. Researchers and readers are recommended to contact the library prior to a visit.

    Vision: BHS offers an audio description of the building for people who are blind and partially sighted through the Web site of New York Beyond Sight.
