There is a secret garden waiting for everyone somewhere within the 52 acres of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Perhaps it is the Cranford Rose Garden, comprising more than 5,000 plants; a rock garden constructed with glacial boulders, which blooms continually from spring until fall; the Japanese Hill and Pond Garden, established in 1915, with its tea house and carp-filled pond; the herb garden with more than 300 varieties; or the fragrance garden, brimming with raised beds of scented, textured plants identified by Braille plaques.
Simply strolling through the botanic garden is a delight at any time of the year. The Cherry Esplanade in spring is fabled. Many formal gardens and displays present a feast for the senses. During the summer months, the garden is noticeably cooler than the rest of the neighborhood. No matter what the season, the botanic garden offers a tranquil oasis amid Brooklyn's hustle and bustle.
