A performance art space for those with decidedly non-mainstream tastes, Dixon Place is an artists' haven, nurturing the delicate creative processes in a stable of emerging artists and collaborative teams in the areas of dance, literature or spoken word, music and performance.

Essentially a laboratory for performers, Dixon Place hosts many works-in-progress as artists try different approaches with different audiences without the pressure of high production costs or premature press exposure. Some 400 artists perform each year.

Taking aesthetic risks is crucial to the life of Dixon Place. Many established artists such as Reno, David Cale, Holly Hughes, Frank Maya and Alva Rogers have used it as an incubator for new work, while others, such as Blue Man Group, have created original works here. In December 2008, Dixon Place moved to its new performance space at 161 Christie Street.
