Conveniently located on the campus of Queens College in Flushing, Kupferberg Center Performances (formerly Colden Center) offers an annual season of events featuring classical music, jazz, contemporary entertainment, family theater and arts education programming for children in Pre-K through grade 12.
Families and children are the focus of two weekend series: Let Us Entertain You includes acrobatic troupes, dance, an annual Nutcracker ballet, musical theatre and pop kid entertainers. Classic Hits for Kids provides an entertaining and interactive introduction to classical music disciplines ranging from the concert orchestra, to opera, to percussion instruments.
School groups have been enjoying multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary concerts on the Revelations arts education series for over 25 years. It's the largest and longest-running arts education program in Queens, attracting over 23,000 children annually. All events are supplemented by curriculum-based Student and Teacher Guides, and most events are followed by a hands-on workshop on stage.
The Jazz Project is an eight-session, in-school residency for jazz band and vocal students in grades 6-12, capped by a sharing performance at Colden Auditorium. The clinics provide lots of personal attention, hone performance and improv skills, and inspire students to continue learning about jazz.
Kupferberg Center for the Arts has two performance venues: the 2,121-seat Colden Auditorium, and the 489-seat LeFrak Concert Hall.
