El Museo del Barrio's permanent collection includes hand-carved Puerto Rican wooden representations of saints, rare pre-Columbian artifacts created by the Taínos, Mexican masks and modern and contemporary art.
Located at the north end of Fifth Avenue's Museum Mile, El Museo is New York City's only museum dedicated exclusively to Latin-American and Latino art, and one of the foremost Latin-American cultural institutions in the United States. Its offerings include both contemporary and historical art exhibitions, concerts, film festivals, free public lectures and symposia, and an array of educational programs for students, teachers and families. Its permanent collection of 6,500 objects includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and photographs.
Foreign-language Programs
The museum hosts many events that feature the Spanish language in song and word, including a Spanish-language book club. Most events are appropriate for both Spanish and English speakers.
