The historic 2,800-seat St. George Theatre opened in December, 1929. After closing in 1972 as a movie house, the theater was shuttered for nearly 30 years. In 2004, Staten Islander Rosemary Cappozalo, a dance teacher, used her life savings to create a nonprofit organization to save the theater, a nonprofit she runs with her daughters, Luanne Sorrentino and Doreen Cugno.

Today the theater serves as a cultural arts center for a myriad of activities including outreach educational programs, architectural tours, television and film shoots, concerts, comedy, Broadway touring companies, children's shows and many local community events and performances.

Performers who have appeared here since 2004 include Tony Bennett, k.d. lang, The B-52’s, Don McLean, Art Garfunkel, Wayne Newton, Chris Botti, Galt McDermott, Yolanda Adams, Tony Orlando, Marc Cohn, the Prairie Home Companion Show, Neil Sedaka, Lee Ann Womack, Taylor Hicks, New York City Opera, Ailey II, Cyndi Lauper, Rosie O’Donnell, John Edwards, Howie Mandel, Brad Garrett, Jackie Mason and the Jonas Brothers.
