Through models, renderings, films and images the Preview Site provides the public an opportunity to learn about the future National 9/11 Memorial and Museum and to view construction progress at the World Trade Center site. The public can also participate in the creation of the museum by sharing their 9/11 stories, which will be included in the museum's introductory exhibition.

On view is a four-minute film by Jim Whitaker and Project Rebirth that combines interviews of nine people directly affected by the 9/11 attacks with time-lapse images from Project Rebirth’s 14 35-mm film cameras sited around Ground Zero. The film highlights the rebuilding of the New York community in the years following the 9/11 attacks.

A selection of artifacts from the museum’s growing permanent collection are on display. Currently featured is a replica Statue of Liberty covered in tributes such as uniform patches, miniature American flags, money, mass cards, rosary beads, condolence notes and souvenir postcards. In 2006, the nearly eight-foot-tall statue was donated to the museum’s permanent collection by the Fire Department of New York Engine 54, Ladder 4, Battalion 9 firehouse.
