African Voices, established in 1992, sponsors literary readings, art exhibitions and writing workshops. Its eponymous magazine features the work of emerging artists of color.

The Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series, co-sponsored by Long Island University’s Media Arts Department, provides opportunities for women of color in the film industry.

The Ellie Charles Artists Award honors artists, community activists and educators for their contributions to society. Recipients thus far have included photographer Gordon Parks, actress Ruby Dee, and authors Walter Mosley and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka.

The African Voices Cultural Circle Conference is a forum connecting writers and visual artists with the resources they need to pursue careers in publishing and the arts.

Rhymes, Rhythms & Rituals is an annual poetry and musical event held in various New York City parks, including Prospect Park, Bryant Park and Marcus Garvey Park.

Art for Kids is a series of workshops that nurtures youth interest in art and literature.
