For over 34 years, the National Dance Institute (NDI) has transformed the lives of more than 2 million public school children through award-winning arts and learning programs that are free for every child. NDI has successfully seeded programs both nationally and abroad. There are currently 12 NDI associate programs thriving in the US. Children discover the arts through dance and develop standards of excellence, a pride of achievement and a curiosity about the world that supports their success in school and in life.  NDI was founded by ballet star Jacques d’Amboise and since 1995 has been under the artistic leadership of Ellen Weinstein.

Currently operating  in 30 partner schools in the New York City  metropolitan area, NDI serves over 4,000 children each week in grades K-6. NDI works with every child in a grade, including English language learners and children with special needs.

A master teacher, teaching assistant and live musician/composer lead every NDI class.

NDI serves diverse low-income communities. Nearly 63 percent of NDI dancers are eligible for free or reduced lunch.  Approximately 81 percent of the children in its programs are children of color.

NDI’s Advanced Scholarship Programs offer extended training outside of school for exceptionally motivated children who demonstrate the passion and willingness to immerse themselves in the discipline of the arts.

NDI has led cultural exchanges around the world, including China, Russia, India, Africa, Israel, Palestine, Bali and Switzerland.
