Since opening in 1932 as part of Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall has served as a symbol of New York City's dedication to live performance. After ceasing to screen movies in the 1970s, Radio City turned its focus to live stage performances. It hosts hundreds of productions each year including the Christmas Spectacular featuring the world-famous Rockettes, and the NFL draft.
Designed by Edward Durell Stone, the 5,933-seat theater is characterized by its Art Deco style which incorporates glass, chrome and geometric ornamentation into the decor. The Great Stage features one of the most intricate systems of pulleys and elevators ever developed for a theater. Also occupying the stage is the Mighty Wurlitzer, an organ made up of 4,410 pipes, making it one of the largest instruments in the world.
