City Hall Park
This 19th-century edifice houses the Mayor's office, the City Council's meeting chambers, the speaker's office and the rooms seen in the background of mayoral press conferences on TV. In 1811, it was located at the northern end of the city.
Guided tours visit the well-restored room on the second floor that served generations of New York governors as their city office. It now houses some of City Hall's collection of fine furniture and portraits of New York mayors and governors.
The neighborhood is rich in history. Across the street, Park Row was the newspaper district 100 years ago. Foley Square, with its Federal and state courts, is a block north, while Chinatown and Little Italy are just beyond. The Brooklyn Bridge, a singular New York landmark and a great excuse for a hike to cap off the visit, is across Park Row from City Hall.
