Founded in 1939 and based in New York, American Ballet Theatre tours widely across the United States. ABT performs a regular fall season at City Center and a spring season at the Metropolitan Opera House. The company's repertory includes many of the great Romantic ballets of the 19th century, major works of the 20th century and works by contemporary choreographers.

ABT's commitment to teaching and presenting classical ballet is embodied in its respected ABT II and Summer Intensive programs for training talented dancers. Other programs such as Make-A-Ballet, ABTkids and Pre-Performance Workshops encourage young people to learn the technique of ballet.
