Ballet Tech (formerly the New Ballet School) has been identifying talented dancers from New York City public schools and providing them with pre- professional and professional training (along with a rigorous academic schedule) since 1978.
Located within Ballet Tech's studio complex and filled with the company's behind-the-scenes atmosphere, the school is like no other in existence. Students are selected by audition, and the competition is stiff. But the payoff is significant: graduates frequently go on to dance with the nation's leading ballet companies, crediting the school with their success. Children are invited to audition at participating public schools in September and October and from April through June. If selected, they attend classes at the New Ballet School studio one to two times a week during the school year and two to four times a week during the summer. There are nine levels of competency. Curriculum includes repertory classes and performance experience.
