For 25 years, three generation of bomba and plena practitioners have come together through their efforts, experiences and talents to perform, expose and highlight the importance of bomba and plena to tens of thousands worldwide.
While the group's extensive body of work is a unique display of energetic, sociable and interactive performances that capture the swinging groove of bomba and plena with perfectly balanced contemporary jazzy arrangements, LP21 remains deeply rooted in the East Harlem community maintaining an active schedule of performances, community cultural arts and arts education initiatives for youth and a general audience. LP21's arts education programs, such as Bomba & Plena For All - Educating Through the Arts, safeguard bomba and plena's permanence by fostering the talents and interests of a new generation of practitioners and supporters.
The School, located in LP21's home base, the Julia de Burgos Cultural Center, offers weekly Saturday classes in a unique family format, providing concurrent instruction for groups divided by ages (3 to 65+).
