Founded in 1985 by the late U.S. poet laureate Stanley Kunitz and arts administrator Elizabeth Kray, Poets House is a 50,000-volume poetry library and meeting place that is free and open to the public. After many years of residence in SoHo, in 2009 Poets House moved to a new location in Lower Manhattan's Battery Park City (on the banks of the Hudson River, two blocks south of Chambers Street).

Senior Discount
Membership for seniors (65 and older) costs $40. Tickets to programs are discounted to $7.
  • Directions: Subway: A, C, 1, 2, 3 to Chambers Street. Walk west on Chambers to River Terrace. Turn left, walk two blocks south to Poets House.
  • Disability Access: Street level entrance, elevator access to second floor.
  • Gift Shops: Memberships, T-shirts, Directory of American Poetry Books
  • Reference Center: 50,000 books, journals, chapbooks, audiotapes, videotapes, reference volumes; open to the public
