Founded in 1985 by the late U.S. poet laureate Stanley Kunitz and arts administrator Elizabeth Kray, Poets House is a 50,000-volume poetry library and meeting place that is free and open to the public. After many years of residence in SoHo, in 2009 Poets House moved to a new location in Lower Manhattan's Battery Park City (on the banks of the Hudson River, two blocks south of Chambers Street).
