What's inside that enormous skyscraper? Who built it? What's it like to get a birds-eye view from its top? How did you get around before the subway? Who made the tunnels? What's it like to get a worm's eye view from the city streets? Does a green roof have to be green?
OHNY Kids! programs answer these questions and many more with free tours, workshops and family-friendly sites during the Annual openhousenewyork Weekend. Families and friends are invited to look, learn, draw, and explore New York City's hidden places and spaces.
Every year during OHNY Weekend, OHNY Kids! hosts dozens of free, family-friendly events, teaching children about architecture and the great city of New York. These events include special workshops, performances and tours designed to encourage kids to think and learn about New York’s built environment—past, present and future—while having fun.
Explore fascinating environments, from monuments to mansions, skyscrapers to subway stations, bedrooms to boardrooms, clubs to crypts: in all five boroughs, OHNY offers the public rare access to diverse places of historical, cultural and architectural significance. Families are also invited to the Annual OHNY Weekend Family Festival at the Center for Architecture, where they can participate in interactive hands-on activities teaching children about the fundamentals of architecture and challenging them to think creatively about the spaces, places and neighborhoods they inhabit.
In addition to the Weekend, openhousenewyork hosts year-round programs, many of which are family-friendly, including educational workshops and scavenger hunts.
