City Lore documents and presents the city's living cultural heritage through a variety of unique public programs. Among its goals are to make grassroots folk culture and multiculturalism part of the learning experience for both children and adults. To this end, City Lore programs include a storytelling series broadcast nationally on National Public Radio and the annual People's Hall of Fame Awards, which honor individual New Yorkers. These are complemented by a variety of in-school performances and residencies, as well as a multicultural resource center for teachers, the Center for Folk Arts in Education, located at City Lore. City Lore is also involved in a variety of initiatives to document and preserve the many folk cultures and indigenous traditions that contribute to the vitality of New York City.
