Action Center to End World Hunger
Students will study the role of conflict as a cause of hunger and poverty by examining disputes over land rights in Guatemala. Students will be able to understand the conflict within its historical contexts, recognize the difference between inherited land rights and the rights of ownership and learn about indigenous cultures.
Working in groups in a mock mediation session, they will employ persuasive writing and critical thinking skills. Students will understand the mediation process and its power to resolve conflicts both abroad and in their own lives.
With exhibitions, interactive stations and talks, the Action Center welcomes visitors to learn about global hunger and poverty how the public can combat these issues. School groups are welcome.

Hang Out for Change, Thursdays at 3:30 pm
Ongoing This after-school program focuses on global issues such as hunger, climate change, health, poverty and access to education. Students will learn how these issues are affecting us both on a global and local level in New York City. Every month will have a different educational theme and excursion.
Ongoing Students will learn about Indonesia’s recent political history, initiatives the government is taking to empower its citizens and how collaboration between government and citizen groups can greatly improve lives.
Ongoing Students will learn about the global effects of climate change as well as those most acutely affecting Niger today. Particular attention is placed on issues of desertification, soil erosion, depleting water resources, erratic weather patterns and the relationship between climate change and migration.
